What is suggestd on Mac?

suggestd finds useful details in your Mail and Messages, like events, contacts and flight information, and offers them as Siri Suggestions in apps such as Calendar and Contacts.

What it does

It reads new messages on your Mac for things like dates, phone numbers and addresses, so Calendar can offer events found in Mail and Contacts can show people found in your messages. The processing happens on your Mac.

Why it gets busy

  • A large mailbox being downloaded or re-indexed.
  • Messages syncing a long history.
  • Adding a new mail account.

Why is suggestd using so much CPU?

suggestd is reading new mail and messages for Siri Suggestions. After a big mail download it can stay busy for a while, then it settles.

Is it safe to quit?

macOS restarts it, and it continues from where it was.

How to calm it down

  1. Let it finish after adding a mail account. It's working through your messages.
  2. If you don't want suggestions from an app such as Mail, open System Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri (or Siri), find the Siri suggestions and privacy options, and turn off learning from that app.
