What is calaccessd on Mac?

calaccessd gives apps access to your calendars and events and handles calendar alerts. It's the background part of Calendar.

What it does

Calendar, widgets, Siri and third-party apps read and change events through it. It manages alerts so they fire on time, and works with your accounts to keep events in sync.

Why it gets busy

  • Subscribed calendars that refresh often, especially big ones like sports or holiday feeds.
  • Syncing large calendars, such as a busy work calendar.
  • Apps or widgets reading many events.

Why is calaccessd using so much CPU?

calaccessd is syncing or refreshing calendars. Large subscribed calendars and frequent refreshes are the usual cause.

Is it safe to quit?

macOS starts it again as soon as an app needs calendar data. Events and alerts aren't affected.

How to calm it down

  1. In Calendar › Settings › Accounts, set calendars to refresh less often.
  2. Remove subscribed calendars you no longer use.
  3. Check System Settings › Privacy & Security › Calendars for apps that don't need full access.

In SystemWatch

SystemWatch's History shows calaccessd's refresh pattern, which makes a calendar that updates too often easy to spot.
