What is usernoted on Mac?

usernoted delivers notifications from apps to Notification Center. It decides whether each one is shown, grouped, silenced by Focus, or added to the list.

What it does

Apps hand their notifications to the system notification service. usernoted, working with usernotificationsd, applies your choices from System Settings › Notifications and Focus, and passes notifications to Notification Center to display.

Why it gets busy

  • An app sending a flood of notifications.
  • A big backlog of old notifications in Notification Center.
  • Focus changes being applied to many apps.

Why is usernoted using so much CPU?

usernoted delivers notifications. A noisy app or a big backlog of notifications keeps it working, so clear them and silence that app.

Is it safe to quit?

macOS restarts it. Notifications sent at that moment may arrive late.

How to calm it down

  1. Clear old notifications in Notification Center.
  2. Turn off or limit notifications for noisy apps in System Settings › Notifications.

In SystemWatch
