What is remindd on Mac?

remindd is the Reminders daemon. It stores your reminders, syncs them with iCloud and other accounts, and makes sure due reminders trigger notifications.

What it does

The Reminders app, Siri and other apps read and change reminders through remindd. It schedules alerts so they appear even when Reminders isn't open, and keeps lists in sync across your devices.

Why it gets busy

  • Syncing many lists, or a shared list with lots of changes.
  • Upgrading reminders data after a macOS update.
  • Location-based reminders checking where you are.

Why is remindd using so much CPU?

remindd is syncing or upgrading your reminders. It settles after a sync, though very large or shared lists keep it busier.

Is it safe to quit?

macOS restarts it, and your reminders aren't lost.

How to calm it down

  1. Open Reminders and let it finish syncing.
  2. Clear out long lists of completed reminders you no longer need.
  3. If it's still busy a day later, restart the Mac and open Reminders again.
