What is findmydeviced on Mac?
findmydeviced runs Find My Mac. It lets you see your Mac's location in Find My and lock or erase it remotely, and it supports Activation Lock.
What it does
When Find My Mac is on, findmydeviced responds to requests from the Find My app on your other devices or from iCloud.com, such as playing a sound, locking or erasing. It works with searchpartyd, which handles the Find My network.
Why it gets busy
- Responding to a locate, sound or lock request.
- Checking in after the Mac wakes or changes networks.
Is it safe to quit?
macOS restarts it, and Find My Mac keeps working.
How to calm it down
- It's rarely busy for long. Restart your Mac if it is.
- Make sure no Apple Account prompt is waiting under your name in System Settings.
In SystemWatch
SystemWatch explains findmydeviced so you can see it's Apple's Find My Mac service, not tracking software someone installed.
