What is storeassetd on Mac?
storeassetd is part of the App Store's background system. It handles downloading app files from the App Store.
What it does
It comes from Apple's CommerceKit framework, alongside commerce and storedownloadd, and works with appstoreagent when apps are installed or updated. It's active while App Store downloads are running.
Why it gets busy
- Downloading large apps or games.
- Many app updates downloading at once.
Why is storeassetd using so much CPU?
storeassetd is busy while App Store downloads are running. Large games and many updates at once take the longest.
Is it safe to quit?
macOS restarts it. An App Store download may pause and then resume.
How to calm it down
- Let downloads finish, or stop them from the App Store's Updates page.
- Turn off automatic app updates in App Store › Settings if you'd rather install them yourself.
In SystemWatch
SystemWatch's History shows storeassetd's busy spells next to other App Store activity, so you can tell downloads from a problem.
