What is callservicesd on Mac?

callservicesd handles calls on your Mac: FaceTime calls, and phone calls made or received through your iPhone.

What it does

It tracks calls in progress, connects them to the audio and video system, and keeps call history in sync. With Calls from iPhone turned on, it works with your iPhone so your Mac can ring and place calls.

Why it gets busy

  • Calls in progress, especially FaceTime video.
  • An unstable link to your iPhone with Calls from iPhone on.
  • Syncing call history.

Why is callservicesd using so much CPU?

callservicesd is busy during calls, or when your Mac keeps reconnecting to your iPhone for calls. Turn off Calls from iPhone if you don't use it.

Is it safe to quit?

macOS restarts it. A call in progress may drop.

How to calm it down

  1. If you don't take calls on your Mac, turn off Calls from iPhone in FaceTime › Settings.
  2. Keep your iPhone and Mac on the same Wi-Fi network for reliable call handoff.
